Econ Group were appointed to clear a former rail storage area. The job consisted of clearing 16 loads of fly tipped materials and levelling off the area to make safe for the site investigations.

Once level we when used a backhoe loader to excavate 26 trial pits across the site going to a depth of 3.5 metres. Samples of the spoil in each hole were taken to assess the make up of the ground and its content.

Operatives cut back the bushes and vegetation around the site boundary with heavy duty strimmer’s and bush cutters. All the green waste was recycled at our transfer station.

Finally, we replaced the old wooden fence with a heavy-duty steel palisade fence around the boundary with gates for access. This fencing also acted as protection to stop any further fly tipping on the site.  The site was cleared on programme and within budget costs.

“Our client had a limited budget on this project but need to get the full scope of works completed ready for future development of the site. Using our backhoe loader means we were able to carry out the works on the project each day and drive the machine off every night saving on the cost of any security measures. Our backhoe was also able to undertake all tasks with ease. This saving of course helped us work with the client’s budget” – commented Senior Operations Manager Liam Moore

“We were impressed with the approach used by you operation team to carry out the works both professional and diligently. Econ were very accommodating to meet our needs from the initial presentations prepared on strategy to mitigate risks and throughout execution of the works and keeping us fully informed and giving us the confidence we needed. The approach of Econ Site supervisors and visiting managers through to operatives on site was always of a high standard and good-natured and we are pleased to give credit where it is due. On site initiatives by the team from demonstrations /videos of emergency procedures when working in asbestos enclosures and working with consistent site uniforms contributed to the site achieving a Kier ‘Blue’ for best practice and working above standards. This was an excellent example of collaborative working and a joint approach to promptly overcome some of the challenges with asbestos and how best to deal with this along with working near challenging neighbours’ properties, the school and the church.”
